When an account stops syncing

Why connections lapse, what to do about it, and what happens to the trades in between.

2 min read

A connected account will stop syncing eventually. That is normal and it is not usually a fault: brokers end sessions on a schedule. When one lapses the account is marked as needing you and syncing pauses rather than failing silently — nothing renews itself in the background, so the pause holds until you press Reconnect.

Nothing is lost while a connection is down. A gap in sync is a gap in FILLS arriving, not a hole in what you already have.

What to do

  1. Reconnect from Trading accountsopen the drawer in the navbar and press the amber Reconnect button on the row that needs it. Alltra tries to renew the connection with the broker first, so on some platforms that press is the whole fix and you are never asked for anything. If the broker will not renew without you, the notice says so and you link that broker again from the Link Account tab. Either way the account keeps its history, its name and everything you have written against it.
  2. Let the sweep catch upit picks up everything it missed on the next pass, so you do not have to work out what the gap was.
  3. Backfill by CSV if you are in a hurrysafe to do even if the sweep is about to run — importing the same fills twice does not double anything.

When it is worth a ticket

If a connection drops again within a day, that is not the ordinary expiry and it is worth telling us. Tell us in the Discord with the account name and we will read the sync log for it.
